So… Dawn and I just got back from a two-week trip to the Pacific Northwest and I’m about to post a fucking flood of food pictures from Portland, Oregon and Juneau, Anchorage, Gerdwood, and Wittier, Alaska. Stay tuned. We went on an epic adventure. I have tales to tell.

So, like I said Dawn and I took a trip to Portland Oregon, and of course I drank a lot of coffee! Stumptown Coffee Roasters coffee is probably the most well-known local coffee in Portland, and I had plenty of it! I especially enjoyed frequenting an awesome café near where we stayed that is called The Fresh Pot. They serve Stumptown coffee and great pastries including hand pies and “pop tarts!” Plus, the person working the counter recommended a taqueria to me, where I got one of the best tacos I’ve ever had! (Stay tuned for that!)

When I told the barista from The Fresh Pot coffee shop in Portland, Oregon that I’m a food blogger from North Carolina, they were excited to recommend that I go to Taquería Los Puñales, so I did, and WOW! This “Barbacoa Jalisco” style taco was truly one of theee best tacos I have ever had in my life! After being assembled, the taco is put back on the grill to “crispen in its own juices.” It was fantastically good and tasty AF. The folks who worked there were super nice, and the set up was cute too. Recommend 100%.

Our host in Portland, Oregon strongly suggested that I try Little T American Baker, and boy howdy! They weren’t kidding. These were definitely some of the best, most high quality pastries I’ve had! 5 stars for flavor, texture, sweetness levels (not too high!) and presentation! I recommend this one very highly! It’s an absolute must for any pastry fan when visiting Portland!

My nephew and I got tacos and doughnuts from La Sirenita Mexican Restaurant, and Angels Donuts and Ice Cream – Portland, both on NE Alberta Street, right next to each other. I recommend them! I got carnitas and pollo tacos. The chicken was particularly good! The doughnuts were cakey and bomb, I could have eaten ten.

Some of the best food we ate in Portland, Oregon was from a place called Hoda’s Middle Eastern Cuisine on SE Belmont street. We got green lentil soup and super delicious flat bread, plus warm ground beef stuffed grape leaves, fresh tabouli, and grass fed beef kibbeh. All of it was really tasty, high quality food, and Dawn and I both loved it! Recommend.

We had a classic, old school, sea food experience at Jake’s Famous Crawfish in downtown Portland, Oregon while visiting my nephew and other friends there. Crab Louie, pan fried oysters (the highlight of the meal for me!), raw oysters, salmon, bouillabaisse, etouffee, and shrimp cocktail! Yum!

One of the best meals we had in Portland, Oregon was from a place called Nong’s Khao Man Gai on SE Ankeny Street. It was maybe my favorite meal of them all, and the concept that I wanted to bring back to Asheville the most! The menu was SIMPLE, with fewer than 10 things on it. Chicken, chicken, chicken, pork, tofu, chicken, and soft serve iced cream.
I got light meat chicken with rice and broth.
It. Was. Insanely. Good.
So basic and simple and satisfying! The sauces and pickles really made it. The chicken livers were also very tasty! So was the the Thai sweet tea. And the soft serve iced cream was excellent!!! Gah! All of it was perfect and I inhaled every bite.
Thanks, Nong’s! And thanks old friend Craig for bringing us their, and new friend Lorraine for shouting my name and making sure I got my iced cream! ❤️❤️❤️

Y’know what? I totally forgot to post these pictures from one of the more memorable meals we had on our trip to Portland, Oregon. They are from the Portland City Grill, which is on the 30th floor of the US Bank Corp. building. The views are amazing, as one might expect, and the food was excellent! We got shrimp cocktail, sushi, and some very tasty crab-cakes, that had no bread or other filler involved. They were just straight up crab meat and some kind of binder like mayo or something. Like a warm Crab salad, almost. They were very very tasty! The whole experience was excellent, the service was great, I recommend this highly for anybody visiting, or living in Portland!
