BREAKING NEWS: Stu Helm Tapped to Replace Gordon Smith

…As a Judge in the 2016 Wing War.

Hello Asheville!

I had a sad feeling, that has now turned into elation, as I have been tapped at the last minute to be a Judge in the 2016 Asheville Wing War! Whoop! Whoop! I’ve judged wings at the AWW two years in a row, and I was feeling left out that I didn’t get a spot on the panel this year, when… all of a sudden… at the very last possible moment… City Council Member and well respected West Asheville therapist, Gordon Smith cancelled for reasons unknown to me, but probably have something to do with… oh I dunno… running the city or helping people cope with life’s problems. Having no such good deeds on my own scheduled, I was more than happy to fill the vacancy, when Kelly Densen offered me Gordon’s seat!

So, I’ll see you all at the Wing War tomorrow! Here’s the deets from their web site:

Selling out in just days, the Asheville Wing War has become a staple of the local food scene over the past 5 years. More than a dozen local restaurants are nominated via social media by area residents and the restaurants go on to compete in Asheville’s hottest food contest.

Slated to be the largest Asheville Wing War to date, 1000 attendees are set to pack out the exhibition hall at the Crown Plaza Resort to eat wings, drink Sierra Nevada and Pisgah Brewing Company beer and vote for their favorite spicy hand-held chicken.

The wings are judged in two different categories: specialty and traditional, and are judged separately by local celebrity judges and by attendees choosing the People’s Choice Award.
