FOOD NEWS: Two Pop-Ups, a Show Down, and Free Dessert!

Did somebody say free dessert? Yes! The good folks at Woodfire Grille are giving away free desserts! I’m a fan of the Woodfire Grille. I’ve eaten there twice, pigged-out on many food items both times, including dessert, and thoroughly enjoyed every bite! I’m also a fan of the upcoming Food Truck Showdown, which I’ll be a judge at again this year, and I am most definitely a fan of pop-ups, two of which are happening soon or NOW! Scroll down to read the deets…

THIS JUST IN: From The Food Truck Showdown
The Judges Have Their Orders!

I’m psyched to be a judge for the third year in a row at the Asheville Food Truck Show Down! This event, produced by the inimitable Carey Harnash, is one of the highlights of the Asheville Food Scene and winner of my 2017 Stoobie Award for Best Food Competition! The other judges this year are restaurateur Felix Meana (Cúrate, Nightbell), and food connoisseur Mark Rounds. Here’s the latest missive form Carey to the judges…

###

Dear Judges,

I want to take this opportunity to personally thank you for volunteering to judge the 5th Annual Asheville Food Truck Showdown taking place Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the WNC Ag. Center – Expo Building. The stakes this year are very high for each of the 24 participating food trucks, so I know you will perform admirably in judging without bias or favoritism.  Please arrive at the WNC Ag. Center – Expo Building between 9 AM – 9:15 AM. The judging will start promptly at 9:30 AM. There are 6 groups, 4 food trucks per group.  You will be provided a scorecard for each truck to fill out.  The trucks were randomly assigned their group and order of presentation.  Each truck will present their dish.  At the end of the judging you will add up the totals and rank the top ten food trucks in order from 1 to 10 (1 is first place on down).  In the case of a tie, majority rules apply to break the tie.  As in year’s past there are not only categories relating to taste and presentation, but also for the outward appearance of the actual truck.  As such, you will have time after judging the food to walk around and judge the trucks before totaling you scores.

Thank you,
Carey Harnash
