August 12th, 2019 – You may have noticed the name change from last year, from “The Stoobie Awards” to the “Asheville Food Fan Awards,” and if you’re wondering why, it’s because last year, after the amazing live ceremony and party and all of the time and effort that everyone put into everything, I realized this thing has outgrown me! So, while all of the nominees and winners will still be chosen by me, and no one else, the name isn’t such an inside joke anymore. The joke being, that whenI started awarding these “Best ofs” six years ago, literally no one cared, so I thought it would be funny to name them after myself, in an act of sarcastic self-aggrandizement. Now that people actually do care, I’ve decided to give them a better name.

Also, I have enlisted a secret academy of eaters who will help me find more of the great food out there in Asheville. Just as the awards themselves have outgrown me, so has the food scene outgrown my capacity to keep up with all of it and try every little thing I want to try. My academy members will be steering me towards the best bites and dishes they’ve had, as well as weighing n on their favorite chefs and restaurants. I will still be making all of the final decisions, but the folks I’ve recruited to advise me are my A-team, my compadres, my councilors, my fellow hard core eaters.
