I like to team-up with the local food vendors, makers, promoters, etc in Asheville to do fun contests in which the readers have a chance to win free food. Because I know how much everyone loves free food. Right? Seriously. Free food is the best thing ever! So, here’s the latest contest…
3 Food Fans Won a Free AIR Passport!
Katie Alexander
“All regions of Asia for all of the noodles, saucy spicy yummy bowls, all of the dumplings, all of the street food.”
Beverly Brignolo
“Hong Kong for Dim Sum on Sunday morning with my Chinese family.”
Lora Lanier
“I hope this can involve time travel, because I would go to my grandmother’s house in East Texas and she would make her famous chocolate roll. It was her own invention, a pastry dough rolled in Cocoa, sugar and butter and baked in milk, and we haven’t adequately reproduced it yet!”
Congrats to our three winners, who were selected via random number generator!

Widnes, for Marie’s Chippy, the best fish and chips in the UK. And then to Portland for Le Pigeon and a seat at the bar with Gabriel Rucker cooking. Then London for the Fat Duck and their 18 course lunch. Then Slyman’s in Cleveland for a corned beef sandwich. Then anywhere where they might have a decent glass of port.

Stu, I would go to my Granny’s house in Jupiter (near Weaverville), where she would fix inch-thick pork chops floured with s&p and fried golden crispy from her pen-raised pigs, mashed potatoes from her garden slathered in butter she churned while sitting on the front porch, greasy cutshort beans cooked with sidemeat from the same pig, cabbage cooked up with onions and bacon, sliced Mr. Stripey tomatoes from the garden, biscuits as big as your fist with more butter, and blackberry cobbler with blackberries she picked in the woods. There would be ice box pickles on the table, and sweet tea and fresh buttermilk from that same churn to drink.
